Hickory County Soil & Water Conservation District
RENTAL EQUIPMENT
The Hickory County SWCD first purchased rental equipment in 2002 with funds provided with the approval of the Weaubleau Creek SALT (Special Area land Treatment) project. Additional funds became available in 2005 with the addition of the Pomme De Terre SALT project. With the SALT projects, matching grants and local funds generated from the rental equipment, it has allowed the district to accumulate a list of agricultural tools available to the landowners of Hickory County. If you are interested in any of this equipment, call Larry McLain at 417-745-6613 Ext. 101.
Rental Rates and Equipment
No-Till Drills - $7.50/Acre
The District has two Great Plains 10' drills. The drill is used mostly by landowners wanting to interseed legumes or establish grass ground cover but it can efficiently deliver a wide variety of seed from peas to alfalfa. A drill agreement must be signed prior to using the drill.
Pasture Harrow - $50/Day
The newest addition to the district's line of equipment is a 26' Pasture harrow. The benefits of using the pasture harrow include the spreading of clumped manure to evenly spread it over the fields, thereby increasing the manure's fertilizer treatment and absorbing it into the soil more quickly. Experienced ranchers notice that cattle will not eat grass that grows within one foot of a manure pile. So break up those piles and use your pastures more efficiently. Harrowing can also help decrease fly populations. By aerating the soil and breaking up piles, manure dries faster and prevents larvae from maturing inside piles.
Sprayers - $50/Day
The district has two 500 gal. Nozzle (boomless) PTO driven Wylie Sprayers. Each sprayer has dual controls for one or both sides and a spray gun for spot spraying. Early spring is the best time of year to control musk thistle and buck brush.
Seeder and Fertilizer Spreader - $35/Day
This 700 lb. capacity spreader is all stainless steel and is great for easy spreading of seed or fertilizer. It can be pulled with an ATV, pickup or tractor. It works great for small pastures, landscaping and ponds banks.
