The county is divided into four territories with one representative from each territory, plus Marlin Bates, a representative from the University of Missouri-Extension serving as board secretary. The primary duty of a board member is to manage the operation of the soil and water conservation district. Other duties include administering district funds received from the parks, soils and water sales tax that is used for cost-share assistance, conducting informational meetings/tours and sponsoring education programs for county youth.

                                       NEXT ELECTION:  March 2009 - Area 1 and 4    

To qualify for office, a candidate shall:                                                                                                  Be a land representative,                                                                                                                    Be a resident taxpaying citizen within that SWCD for two years next preceding the election date,            Be a cooperator of the SWCD and                                                                                                   Reside in or own a farm lying in the same territory where the nominating committee has responsibility.
