                                         Mulcher

                                                      Haybuster Mulcher

Platte County Soil and Water Conservation District offers a big bale mulcher for urban and agricultural use. All netting and string must be removed from the bales before they are used in the mulcher.

Platte County landowners and operators can use the mulcher in adjoining counties, but it cannot be rented to non-Platte County landowners. An extra delivery fee per mile will be charged beginning at the county line for mulcher delivery and pick-up outside of Platte County.

Pre-payment and an agreement form will need to be taken care of at the office prior to delivery.  Agriculture use is $100 per day plus $50 per acre with a minimum of one acre. Commercial use rents at $225 per day plus $50 per acre with a minimum of one acre.

The mulcher is scheduled on a first come, first serve basis. Grundy Newton is the district's mulcher manager and can be contacted at 816-858-5806 for scheduling and transportation.

                       root plow              rootplow 2

                                                                     Root Plow

Early spring is an excellent time to plow fence rows and tree lines for moisture and nutrient conservation.  This tool makes tree removal unnecessary to eliminate crop competition.

Never operate the root plow until you know the locations of all buried hazards such as gas, electric, and water lines.

A two to three foot deep furrow is the goal. Do not attempt the depth at one pass. Accomplish this depth in two or more operations. Excessive stress is likely to cause equipment damage.

Plow two feet out from the tree's dripline and at least 15 feet from the main trunks. Hedgerows should be plowed every three to five years.

The district's root plow requires a 70 h.p. tractor and can be rented at $5 per day.
