Woods Fork Watershed AgNPS SALT Project

The Woods Fork Watershed AgNPS SALT Project began July 1, 2006 and will continue through June 30, 2012. The funds available over this seven year period are $490,000. With the project being in the third fiscal year, we have made contract payments to landowners of over $144,000. 

Objectives of the AgNPS SALT project include:  reduce erosion using the DSL-1 Permanent Vegetative Cover Establishment and DSL-2 Permanent Vegetative Cover Improvement; implement pasture management by using the DSP-3 Planned Grazing System, DSP-2 Permanent Vegetative Cover Enhancement, and mDSP-2 Modified Permanent Vegetative Cover Enhancement practices; offer resource management practices by utilizing the practices of N590 Nutrient Management and N595 Pest Management; protect critical areas through the N391 Riparian Forest Buffer, N472 Use Exclusion, C050 Alternative Watering System, and riparian forest buffer practices; protect woodland by using the DFR-5 Woodland Protection through Livestock Exclusion practice; protect streambanks by using the C650 Streambank Stabilization practice; improve groundwater by utilizing the N351 Well Decommissioning and N574 Spring Development practices; address waste management by installing N312 Waste Management Systems; complete information and education activities such as grazing schools, workshops, soil tests, manure tests, newsletters, and newspaper articles.
